The Who - The Who Sell Out
The Who deliver a pop-art masterpiece that pays tribute to the glory days of pirate radio.
In 1967, it was all Flower Power, peace and love, and psychedelic vibes. So why were the Who singing about spot cream and deodorant?
Their third album, The Who Sell Out, ignored the trends of the era to look at music's relationship with consumerism, creating a pop-art masterpiece where, before you know it, a song might just reveal itself to be an advertisement for some beans.
As well as this, the band were lamenting the death of pirate radio, and in doing so, left us an utterly unique album which captures the Who at their playful and experimental best.
