Scots Gaelic Special with Kim Carnie

An hour of Scottish Gaelic songs. Kim Carnie talks about the language, the culture and her new album, A' Chailleach.

The best in folk and acoustic music from Britain and beyond.

Glasgow's Celtic Connections festival is up and running, and Mark dedicates this week's Folk Show to Scottish Gaelic music and song.

Mark's guest, Kim Carnie, is a renowned Gaelic singer with the bands Mànran and Staran. Her latest solo album A' Chailleach celebrates female Gaelic voices, folklore and 'forgotten magic'. Her own appearances at Celtic Connections include the 'Òran Ùr' celebration of 25 years of new Gaelic songs.

We'll also hear music by Julie Fowlis, Kathleen MacInnes and Capercaillie, while exploring the history of puirt à beul ("mouth music") and the waulking songs of traditional cloth makers.
