Sebastian Rochford’s 4/4
The future-facing Scottish drummer takes us round his record collection.
'Round Midnight is presented by award-winning saxophonist Soweto Kinch. This weekday late-night show celebrates the thriving UK jazz scene and spotlights the best new music alongside incredible acts from past decades.
This week, Soweto’s guest is the alchemic drummer and producer Sebastian Rochford. A frontrunner in UK jazz, Sebastian has helped to expand the boundaries of the genre, from his work with pioneering Mercury-nominated band Polar Bear, Sons of Kemet, and pianist Kit Downes, to his new guitars-focused album, Finding Ways. He has also worked with artists including Patti Smith, Damon Albarn, and Brian Eno.
From Monday to Thursday, Sebastian will be guiding us around his record collection, choosing some of the albums that have influenced him, for our 4/4 feature.
To begin his week, Sebastian selects a release from a much-revered Texan pianist. Also in the programme, there’s music from Nubiyan Twist, Adja, and Ronnie Scott Quintet.
