Formed in 2007, Mumford & Sons were at the forefront of the 00s British folk scene, playing regularly with the likes of Laura Marling. In 2009 they released their debut album Sigh No More which earned them a BRIT award and not only lead to big success here, but also internationally, reaching number two in both the UK charts and the Billboard 200 in the US. Second album Babel topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic and won them their first Grammy award. Since then, they have toured globally and developed their sound over several more record. The band are set to release their sixth studio album Prizefighter later this month, which includes collaborations with Hozier, Gracie Abrams and Chris Stapleton.
Mumford and Sons said: βWe are stoked to be making our debut at Radio 2βs Piano Room alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra. We have rarely had the opportunity to collaborate with any orchestra, and this is one of the best in the world so hopefully we don't play too many wrong notes. It really is an honour. We canβt wait.β
Back for its fifth year, Radio 2 Piano Room Month sees globally famous, award-winning artists perform three tracks - a new song, one of their well-known numbers, and an unexpected cover version - all accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra.
