Paris. 1859. Caroline Sheridan Norton is the granddaughter of Richard Brinsley Sheridan.

She'won independence from her miserable husband the hard way - by losing custody of her sons to him.

Now, grown-up, they are reunited with her.

But one is ailing, and moreover Caroline cannot help remembering the death of a third son, many years before.

She's committed her life towards changing British law and ending "the wicked injustice we mothers had to suffer."
