45. Fateful Fetes and Unexpected Friendships with Lynda and Tracy

Emma Freud revisits memorable, comic and romantic Ambridge fetes, with Lynda Snell (played by Carole Boyd), Tracy Horrobin (Susie Riddell) and young farmer Mike Wilkins.

After another triumphant Ambridge village fete, Emma Freud is joined by the organisational supremo Lynda Snell - played by Carole Boyd - and Tracy Horrobin - played by Susie Riddell - along with young farmer and former Great British Bake Off contestant Mike Wilkins, who also recently co-presented BBC Farmwatch.

They revisit some of the most memorable, comic and romantic fetes over the decades, including Nigel's bungee jump, the revelatory wife-carrying race of 2003 and - perhaps most romantic of all - the fete of 1957. It was opened by jazz star Humphrey Lyttelton, and the young widower Phil Archer captured the occasion on cine film, with a notable focus on a striking young woman in a yellow dress - his future wife Jill.

Emma also hosts a fete quiz, including questions about celebrity guests, animals and games - so who competed with a dancing dog called Anton du Bark? And who won a piglet - which eventually led to marriage?
