Pete Tong was one of the first DJs to visit Ibiza in the late eighties along with fellow jocks Danny Rampling and Paul Oakenfold. What was originally planned as a holiday turned out to be a voyage of discovery that shaped the UK club scene for the next eleven years. Pete still visits the island every year for work and pleasure and has given the Radio 1 web site his rundown on the essential Ibiza
Essential Club
Pacha is a massive club that has an elaborate mix of African and Meditteranean inflences. It is to say the least 'breath taking'. There are a number of different rooms, playing various sounds, which try to keep in check with the club's soulful house/garage music policy.. The crowd is very European with people from all walks of life which adds to the bustling atmosphere of the place with a great range of promoters in the house every night including Ministry of Sound and Renaissance. The Essential Selection will be touching down live there on August 7th.
Essential Place To Visit
You must visit old Ibiza Town, which is really charming. It is built on a hill with an old fortress on the top. You can find some lovely traditional Spanish restaurants if you amble along the roads. The harbour is really pretty as well.
