CANCELLATION OF DAY 1 OF ONE BIG WEEKEND Updated 3rd May 2003
Owing to the severe weather conditions of the last few days, BBC Radio 1 has taken the decision to cancel the first day of its One Big Weekend event that was due to take place today at Heaton Park in Manchester.
This decision was taken on health and safety grounds in conjunction with local council inspectors, after a site inspection earlier today.
Radio 1 remains confident that tomorrow's live music event, that is due to start at midday, will still go ahead.
Jason Carter, Executive Of Live Events at Radio 1 said: "We've had to cancel the first day of our One Big Weekend event, as the site is just too waterlogged. This is a massive disappointment for us, and we would like to apologise to our listeners and to all those people who were due to come to Heaton Park today. We are, however, confident that tomorrow's event will go ahead as planned."
Paul Towers "Wow i have been to many gigs and festivals but the Stripes blew the roof off that tent. I was impressed by the crowds reactions to Feeder playing some of the old stuff..."
