Delaram Ali15 Nov 2007
Women’s rights campaigner in Iran.

In July, Delaram Ali was sentenced to 30 months in prison and 10 lashes for having taken part in a peaceful demonstration in Tehran last summer. She had been protesting for equal rights with men and for demanding changes in the law on issues such as child custody and the rules of evidence. This week, the Head of the Judiciary in Iran announced that he is ‘temporarily suspending’ Delaram’s sentence. Professor Haleh Afshar, Professor of Politics and Women’s studies at York University, joins Jenni to discuss the current state of the the women’s protest movement in Iran.
