International
Prostitution and Euro Championships 20089 June 2008
The link between major sporting events and the trafficking of women

The European Football Championships began on Saturday, and this year both Switzerland and Austria are staging the games. A group of MEPs is concerned about the increased risk of trafficking of women for prostitution during the Championships. They are calling on the European Commission to raise awareness of the problem. Jane discusses the issues involved with Mary Honeyball MEP, Labour Member of the Women’s Committee of the European Parliament, and Eva Biaudet, Special Representative for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
