Helen Kongai - Ugandan Farmer7 July 2008
Helen Kongai
How small scale agriculture transforms the lives of women in Uganda.

In 2001 Helen Kongai lost her husband, mother and son in the space of a few months. Ugandan inheritance traditions left her with very little property, and she faced a struggle to survive. Now she’s a prosperous farmer and travels all over Uganda instructing women on how livestock can transform their lives and enrich their communities. In a society where women are often treated as second class citizens, Helen’s programme helps to build confidence as well as skills. She joins Jane to tell her how.
