Gender Equality in Albania28 Jul 2008
New law promotes women

On July 17th, the Albanian parliament passed a Gender Equality Law which will institute a 30 per cent quota of women in all legislative, executive and judicial bodies. Albania is a country more usually associated with political instability, high levels of gender-based violence and the exploitation of women for sexual trafficking. So, how significant are these quotas and what impact will they have? Jane is joined by the Alabanian MP Valentina Leskaj and the journalist Gabriel Partos to discuss the promise this law holds for women.
