The Argentine first lady’s presidential bid
Christina Kirchner is standing for the presidency of Argentina. She is an experienced politician and a senator. But she is also first lady, wife of the current Peronist president of Argentina, Nestor Kirchner. He has stood aside to support her running for office in this October's election.
Some commentators have compared the couple to Bill and Hillary Clinton. Others have dubbed Chistina "the new Evita". But what difference, if any, will it make to ordinary women's lives if she succeeds her husband?
Jane Little will be discussing Cristina Kirchner’s bid for the presidency with Celia Szusterman, Associate Fellow for the Americas at Chatham House and Jude Webber, journalist for the Financial Times, based in Buenos Aires. | |
