Itβs over 25 years since the centuries old tradition of devadasis- or temple prostitutes β was outlawed in India. And yet anti- slavery campaigners estimate that there are at least 25,000 devadasis in the southern state of Karnataka β formerly Mysore β alone. Kati Whitaker went to Karnataka to meet some of the women whoβve been ritually dedicated to the temple, and considers the challenges they face.
