International
AURA Rappers1st Oct 2007
Women West African rappers.

AURA - United Artists for African Rap, featuring some of francophone Africa’s most celebrated young female hip hop stars, have just embarked on a major tour across West Africa. Their single 'Poto Poto', or “Big Market”, portraying life for children in the region’s ghettos, is currently riding high in the charts, across West Africa and Europe.

The concerts, a hybrid of hip hop, afrobeat and R&B, are free for young people and attract thousands of fans. Angela Robson caught up with AURA at Africa's biggest Jazz Festival in St Louis, Senegal and spoke first to Miriam from the feminist Senegalese rap collective, Alif.
