International
Peacekeeping troops in Darfur30 July 2008
The continuing humanitarian crisis

The UN assembly is debating the mandate committing peacekeeping troops to Darfur. It had promised to deploy 26,000 troops to the region, but a year later there are still no more than 10,000 on the ground. Women and children are particularly at risk from attacks by marauding rebel groups, and for the aid agencies working in Darfur, the lack of adequate military protection for their workers means they are increasingly unable to reach the people who need their help. Auriol Miller is Country Director of Oxfam in Sudan, she joins Jenni to talk about the continuing humanitarian crisis in Darfur.
