ShedsTuesday 18 March 2003
For generations the shed has been thought of as a male retreat, offering respite from the demands of work and domesticity.

According to a recent survey, we own more of them than ever before, and one of five of us use them to escape from our other halves - but now its more likely to be a woman.
Faith Lawrence talked to Gordon Thorburn author of Men and Sheds to explore the enduring appeal of life at the bottom of the garden - and to ask whether women are taking over this traditional male preserve.
