PHONE IN: Disciplining ChildrenWednesday 2 April 2003
Image: children playing
New research from the NSPCC shows that 87% of parents shout at their children. One in five of them think it is ok to smack a toddler for throwing a tantrum and almost one in ten parents believe that it is ok to smack a toddler for refusing to get into their buggy. At the same time research in Denmark suggests that the verbal abuse of children is psychologically damaging.

So if children's charities advise us not to shout or smack, how should we discipline our children?
