Vanora BennettTuesday 19 August 2003
Vanora Bennett grew up in London, the daughter of émigrés, fascinated by all things Russian. She listened to Russian music, and studied the language, but the touchstone of her nostalgia was caviar.

When she left school she sold her violin and spent the money on plane tickets to Moscow. "I wanted to see the many Russias I'd only read about, live dangerously and eat caviar," she declared.
Vanora joins Jenni to talk about her new book The Taste of Dreams , about her obsession with Russia and caviar, and what it was like to live in Russia in the turbulent times of the early 1990s.
