Most wheels are made very carefully so that they balance at their centres. A balanced wheel does not vibrate when it spins at high speed. If material is added to or removed from part of a wheel, it is then unbalanced. An unbalanced wheel vibrates when it spins at high speed. The vibrations caused by a spinning wheel can make an object move. (Washing machines have been known to 'walk' across kitchen floors while spin drying!) Vibrations can create interesting random movements for a robot.
