The story is based on a girl, Khushi (Kareena Kapoor) and her college friend Karan (Fardeen Khan). Both share a common passion of helping their fellow colleagues in their hour of need even if it means sacrificing their own happiness. Karan, an ambitious lad, has always dreamt of going to Canada for further studies. But circumstances forced him to remain in India and enrol at the Mumbai University. Khushi's family believes that she should get married upon completion of her secondary education. But Khushi insists on carrying on with her education at the nearest University - the Mumbai University (what a coincidence!). During their time on the college campus, Karan bumps into Khushi. And through a series of incidents, they both fall in love - how predictable! One day, a serious argument erupts between the two lovers due to Karan's shrewd intentions. This results in their separation. But their time apart does not last long because both had taken full responsibility to play cupid for their best University mates. In the process of solving their friends' tragic love story, both Khushi and Karan realise that they still have feelings for each other. But what's stopping them expressing their love for each other is their own egoistical characters. And that, in a nutshell is what this film is all about. It is clear that Khushi is a love story but the difference here, is the way the two lovers unite by declaring their love for each other. The highlight of the movie is the music by Anu Malik and the way the songs have been 'canned'. Reputed to be the costliest song ever shot, Tere Bina is undoubtedly the best number from all the recent Bollywood releases. Following closely behind is Hai Re, shot at some of the scenic beauty spots of the United States. The various get-up from the lead pair makes this song stand out from the crowd. With the release of Khushi, Fardeen Khan has finally gained the much needed recognition he so rightly deserves. As for Kareena Kapoor, she has finally broken her 'Poo cocoon' since her release of Kabhie Khushi Khabie Gham few years back. Overall Khushi is lavishly shot with some memorable moments which will appeal to all the members of the family. Reviewed by Manish Gajjar, BBC Shropshire’s Mr Bollywood. |
