Neha Chopra (Karima Kapoor),a young interior designer is hired by Major Jai Singh Dabral (Jackie Shroff). She is to redecorate his bungalow on the scenic hill station town of Nainital. But young Neha is unaware that Nainital harbours a serial killer and he has already chosen her as the next victim. Who is this killer? Can it be Mayor Jai Singh Dabral or Neha’s new neighbour/ playboy Raj Singh (Dino Morea)? Or can it be police inspector Harshvardhan (Sunil Shetty)? What’s more, all three are in love with the beautiful Neha. Which only means one thing - one wants to make her his prey whilst the other two want to save her from the hands of this maniac! Preeti Rastogi (Preeti Jhangiani) is the local police officer. She becomes a close pal of Neha as she settles down in her new environment. But Preeti life line is short lived when she discovers the true identity of killer. The film takes an interesting turn from here on, when the winner of a beauty contest (Aditi Gowitrikar) is brutally murdered. And the serial killer mistakably leaves behind a needle and a dagger as evidence. Up to this point the director manages to build up the suspense. But the film slows down considerably after this scene as it shows the Neha's involvment with playboy, Raj Singh. As the interval point approaches, tension mounts one more time again as Neha finds the killing instruments in none other than her boyfriend’s apartment. Has she finally found the true killer? Well watch Baaz to find out whether this bird is really in danger! Overall the film falters in various parts as the director tries to pay too much attention to the negative sides of the characters in order to keep the audience guessing. The background score by Ismail Darbar manages to increase the tension but it does not provide the same effect in the song and dance sequences. Normally a haunting melody is required in a thriller and this is difficult to find in Baaz. So the songs appear out of place with the story. On the whole Baaz serves as a good past time flick especially if you are a die hard Karisma Kapoor fan. Reviewed by Manish Gajjar, BBC Shropshire’s Mr Bollywood. |
