Bronagh Gallagher in session

Stephen McCauley

Available for 12 days

We return to the Blackstaff Sessions and, this time, it is the turn of Derry actress, singer-songwriter and purveyor of raw Irish soul – Bronagh Gallagher. She has released three acclaimed albums so far – Precious Soul (2004), Bronagh Gallagher (2012) and Gather Your Greatness (2016). Her songs are honest, heartbreaking, heartfelt and hopeful, tapping in to her lifelong love of 60s and 70s soul music inflected with gospel, blues and disco. Music has been a passionate, parallel story alongside her remarkable career in film, TV and theatre, but it has also dovetailed with it in The Commitments and the TV series Brassic. On this week’s programme, Stephen airs three of the Blackstaff Session tracks and chats to Bronagh about her approach to songwriting and the transformative power of music and art.
