Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards on flying high at the Winter Olympics 40 years ago

Sunday with Anna Curran

Available for 11 days

Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards is the ski jumper who jumped into hearts and minds with his fearless endeavours at the Winter Olympics in Calgary 38 years ago. He didn't win, in fact he came last, but that didn't daunt him, or his countless fans! He even had a movie made about him. "Caledonia" by Scottish singer songwriter Dougie MacLean is a classic. It has been covered countless times by other musicians including Paolo Nutini and Dolores Keane. Dougie talks about his 50 year career, his huge back catalogue of music and how one of his songs was used in the soundtrack to Oscar winning film 'Last of the Mohicans'. Also on the show, pioneer of Irish female comedy, Anne Gildea, says she's been making a show of herself since 1989! Anne found fame with trio 'The Nualas'. Now she's taking audiences on 'Further Adventures in Womaning'. Her new solo show is a take on the women our mothers were, the women we were told to be, and the women we became. All that plus tracks from the Sunday Songbook, the perfect soundtrack to your day.
