In the music industry, you don't often get a second chance. And for Tori Amos, when her debut album, 1988's Y Kant Tori Read flopped, there was every chance that might have been the last we ever heard of the American songwriter. But, of course, she managed to pull off a remarkable reinvention, becoming one of the most critically acclaimed songwriters of the early 90s. But by 1996, she was feeling creatively restless, and rather than just making the same album over and over again, she tore up the formula with an album that remains one of her most controversial, and most adored. This is the story of Boys for Pele, and how an unlikely dance makeover turned Tori Amos into a superstar.
