Good Morning. Heading towards 60, I’ve had plenty of years to explore the theme of love. Platonic love, romantic love, lost love, watching countless movies that have included stories of falling in and out of love. As there’s been an increasing shift towards personal development in recent years, wellness practices and the media have brought attention to the pursuit and practice of “self love”. But what is meant by “self-love”? My reflections have considered how self-care is essential, but this isn’t self-love, although we can lovingly care for ourselves. We may appreciate taking time to enjoy pleasures like dancing on the beach at sunset or getting a great massage, but I don’t feel this is self-love either. My teacher once said that “true love” is “love of truth”. When I stepped onto a spiritual path and the reality of God’s existence, I completely fell in love. I also began understanding a truer reality of my own existence through exploring more deeply the inner landscape of the heart. The heart is often referred to as the “front door to God”. A truth that started revealing itself was that God is love and that each of us is created out of pure love. This is a permanent state of love that is ever present, but how willing am I to accept the truth of it and allow myself to truly and unconditionally be loved? My prayer is that we can dare to dive deeper into the field of the heart, where true love exists without conditions or borders, and allow the God within us to love us. This feels to me the practice of true self-love. And from this place, I pray that the love I bring to everyone and everything I encounter in life can then become boundless and bountiful. Sat Naam
