Feel-good favourites, hidden gems and fresh tunes to make you groove. DJ Spoony serves up a brilliant selection of soulful house, classic soul, disco, RnB, UK Garage, Reggae, hip-hop, doo-wop, funk, dance remixes, and much more. American born, Liverpool based soul singer Jalen Ngonda steps up as The Rewind Selector, curating a personal journey through the tracks that shaped him on the dance floors of his youth. Known for his sepia toned, Motown inspired sound and extraordinary vocal warmth, Jalen grew up in Wheaton, Maryland, discovering his love of classic soul early on from his father’s record collection. Jalen’s breakthrough came in 2023 with his debut album Come Around and Love Me, released on the legendary soul label Daptone Records. His new music centres on his forthcoming sophomore album Doctrine of Love, due for release in June. The project revisits his classic soul influences while weaving in gospel tinged vocals and lush arrangements. The album’s lead single, also titled “Doctrine of Love”, a favourite on the Radio 2 playlist, showcases his powerful, raspy tenor and a vibrant, sweeping soul production. He has described the track as inspired in part by James Brown. Spoony wraps things up with a ‘Midnight Feast’ track. Think big production, lush orchestration, and the best voices in the business!
