The Sproxton Cross is an Anglo-Norse monument that stands proudly in a peaceful churchyard just inside Leicestershire. Dating from the 10th or 11th century it was carved and erected in honour of either Sweyn Forkbeard or his son Cnut the Great - nobody is exactly sure. The cross was rediscovered being used as a bridge across a nearby stream but is now to be found by the Church of St Bartholemew. BBC Leicester’s Ben Jackson went to see it for himself with historian Peter Liddle. Produced by Pete Wardman.
