Israel launches new strikes on Iran

Newsday

Available for 28 days

Israel says it is carrying out a fresh wave of strikes in Iran. Earlier it said it had carried out attacks on Iran's "leadership compound". Meanwhile the United States says it's struck nearly two thousand targets in Iran and has sunk much of the Iranian navy. President Trump told reporters at the White House that "everything's been knocked out in Iran". Meanwhile in Lebanon Israel continues to target what it describes as Iran-backed Hezbollah positions. The strikes on Lebanon have forced thousands of people to flee their homes. Urgent warnings to more than a dozen villages in southern and eastern Lebanon were issued early this morning telling people there to evacuate ahead of imminent strikes. We speak to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. And we continue to monitor the effect this conflict is having on the stock markets and Asian stock markets are seeing dramatic falls. South Korea is having an especially tough time. Its Kospi exchange briefly halted trading after stocks fell by more than eight per cent. Presenters: James Copnall and Anne Soy.
