Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia will remain at the club for the rest of the season following Patrick Dorgu's injury.

Malacia has made one brief substitute appearance for United this season after initially being part of Ruben Amorim's 'bomb squad' in the summer.

There has been interest in the 26-year-old and it was anticipated he would leave this month if a suitable deal could be completed.

Club sources say there was no agreement on a transfer and now the view on Malacia has changed after Dorgu suffered a hamstring injury in the 3-2 win at Arsenal last week.

With Dorgu potentially out until April, Luke Shaw is United's only orthodox left-back, although Lisandro Martinez, Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot have all filled in at times.

United feel Malacia, who has been part of the matchday squad for the last 13 Premier League games but is set to leave when his contract expires in the summer, can offer a useful option.
