Lindberg and Cacace retain titles

Ryan Lindberg proved too good for Tyrone McCullagh at the Ulster Hall

Ryan Lindberg won his fourth Ulster bantamweight title in a row with a hard-earned 11-5 win over Tyrone McCullagh on Thursday night.

Lindberg of the Immaculata club was always ahead against his Co Donegal opponent in a repeat of the 2008 final.

Anthony Cacace of Holy Trinity retained the lightweight title by beating Eamon Finnegan 7-4 in a cracking contest.

Illness forced Olympic bronze medallist Paddy Barnes to pull out of the light-flyweight final against Paul Kayes.

Eamon O'Kane suffered a surprise defeat against Twintowns' Steven O'Reilly in the middleweight decider.

The Dungiven man, who is now attached to Belfast club Immaculata, was tied 6-6 with O'Reilly at the end of the bout and countback couldn't separate the boxers with the scores 14-14.

That meant that it went to the judges and all five gave the nod to O'Reilly.

Immaculata's Niall McGinley edged out Monkstown's Michael Bustard 11-10 in the welterweight final while All Saints fighter Stephen Donnelly stopped Patrick Gallagher in the third round of the light-welterweight decider.

As well as Kayes, other walkover winners were Michael Conlan (flyweight), Marc McCullough (featherweight), Stephen Ward (light-heavyweight), John Sweeney (heavyweight) and Cathal McMonagle (super-heavyweight).
