Watson's junior titles hopes end

Heather Watson
Watson exited the tournament at the same stage as she did last year

Heather Watson went out in the singles semi-final stage and the doubles final of the 18s & Under British Junior National Championships.

The 16-year-old from Guernsey was beaten in three sets, 7-6 2-6 7-5, by her doubles partner Tara Moore, who is the top seed in the singles event.

Watson told BBC Guernsey: "I was proud of myself for fighting through it but just kind of upset that I didn't win.

"I had a lot of calls against me but I can't use that as an excuse."

The match lasted three-and-a-half hours, with Watson saying that "every point was at least 20 strokes" long.

On the same side of the net for the doubles final, Watson and Moore were defeated 6-2 6-3 in the final by the number one seeds Jocelyn Rae and Jade Windley.

They made the final after receiving a walkover in their semi-final when one of their opponents, Hannah James, pulled out with a thigh strain.
