Illness (2)

Mae gen i annwyd.I have a cold.
Mae gen i beswch.I have a cough.
Mae gen i wres.I have a temperature.
Mae'r ddannodd gen i.I have toothache.
Mae gen i feirws.I have a virus.
Mae gen i haint.I have a bug.

  • Notice that we say 'mae'r ddannodd'. We always say 'y ddannodd'; the definite article always comes before it.

  • If you're feeling very ill you could say:
Mae gen i annwyd trwm.I have a heavy cold.
Mae gen i wres uchel.I have a high temperature.
Mae gen i beswch cas.I have a nasty cough.

The preposition gan changes according to the person it is referring to. Learn this pattern:

Gen iMae gen i beswch.I have a cough.
Gen tiMae gen ti annwyd. You have a cough.
Gynno foMae'r ddannodd gynno fo.He has toothache.
Gynni hiMae gynni hi wres uchel. She has a temperature.
Gynnon niMae gynnon ni annwyd. We have a cold.
