Future tense of 'to have'
Having looked at the Future Tense of Mynd- To go, we shall now look at the Future Tense of Cael - To have. | Statement | Negative | Question | | Mi ga i | Cha i ddim | Ga i? | | I will have | I Won't have | Can I have? | | Mi gei di | Chei di ddim | Gei di? | | You will have | You won't have | Can you have? | | Mi geith o / hi | Cheith o / hi ddim | Geith o / hi? | | He / she will have | He / she won't have | Can he / she have? | | Mi gawn ni | Chawn ni ddim | Gawn ni? | | We will have | We won't have | Can we have? | | Mi gewch chi | Chewch chi ddim
| Gewch chi? | | You (plural/formal) will have | You (plural/formal) won't have | Can you (formal / plural) have? | | Mi gân nhw | Chân nhw ddim | Gân nhw? | | They will have | They won't have | Can they have? | As you can see verbs in the future tense follow the same pattern as verbs in the past tense. At the beginning of a negative statement an aspirate mutation effects the letters T, C, and P: tTh, C>Ch, pPh. A soft mutation effects the letters B, G, D, Ll, M and Rh: B>F, g/, D>Dd, LlL, M>F, RhR. There is a soft mutation at the beginning of a question for the letters T, C, P, B, G, D, Ll, M, Rh.
Be' gei di i frecwast yfory? What will you have for breakfast tomorrow?
Mi ga i dost a sudd oren I'll have toast and orange juice

Be' gawn ni i swper yfory? What will we have for supper tomorrow?

Cofiwch - mae treiglad meddal ar ôl mi ga i, mi gei di etc.Remember - there is a soft mutation after mi ga i, cei di etc. e.e. Mi geith hi frechdan ham, mi gawn ni bysgod a sglodion. The verb CAEL is also used to ask permission.Ga i means 'may I?' as well as 'may I have?'.| Ga i fynd i'r ty^ bach? | May I go to the toilet? | | Gawn ni edrych ar y teledu? | May we watch the television? | | Ga i agor y ffenest? | May I open the window? | | Ga i fenthyg pres? | May I borrow money? | Cofiwch - remember the responses. We use cei and na chei with people that we call ti. We use cewch and na chewch with people that we call chi and if we're talking to more than one person:| Ga i fara? | Cei! | | Ga i agor y ffenest? | Na chei! | | Gawn ni chwarae? | Cewch! | | Gawn ni sglodion? | Na chewch! |
