Shopping

In this section we will concentrate on shopping.

When you do things as a habit or as a rule you say in Welsh bydda i E.g. Mi fydda i'n siopa - I (usually) shop. Mi fydda i'n prynu - I (usually) buy. Here's a list of the full forms:

Mi fydda i
Mi fyddi di
Mi fydd hi
Mi fydd o
Mi fyddwn i
Mi fyddwch chi
Mi fyddan nhw
Wyt ti'n hoffi siopa?Do you like shopping?
ydw / nac ydwyes / no
Lle byddi dti'n siopa fel arfer?Where do you shop usually?
Mi fydda i'n siopa yn yr archfarchnad.I shop in the supermarket.
Mi fydda i'n siopa yng nghanol y dre.I shop in the town centre.
Mi fydda i'n siopa y farchnad.I shop in the market.

  • Cofiwch - mae treiglad meddal ar ôl berf yn y gorffennol, ar ôl 'o', ac ar ôl 'ga i?'
  • Remember - there is a soft mutation after a verb in the past tense, after 'o', and after 'ga i ?'
  • You will sometimes see Ga i written as Gaf i. Both forms have the same meaning, but Ga i is more common in spoken Welsh.

  • Dillad ddillad
    bara fara
    pys bys
    moron foron
    tusw dusw
Gest ti fargen?Did you have a bargain?
Do, mi ges i lawer o fargeinion.Yes, I had a lot of bargains.
Naddo, ches i ddim bargeinion. No, I didn't have any bargains.

Mae 'siop' yn fenywaidd (feminine), felly dan ni'n treiglo y gair nesaf (we mutate the following word). Edrychwch ar yr enghreifftiau hyn - look at these examples:

    Siop faraBaker's
    Siop ddilladclothes shop
    Siop lyfraubook shop
    Siop lysiaugreengrocer's
    Siop bysgodfishmonger
    Siop bapur newyddnewsagent's

    Siop fferinsSweet shop
    Siop anifeiliaid anwesPet shop
Dw i'n mynd i'r siop fara.I'm going to the baker's.

  • We use dw i'n mynd i' when talking about the shops above. But, when the shop refers to a person we say 'dw i'n mynd at'. Er enghraifft - for example:
  • Mi fydda i'n mynd at y cigydd.I'm going to the butcher's
Mi fydda i'n mynd at y fferyllydd.I'm going to the farmacist.
Mi fydda i'n mynd at y crydd.I'm going to the cobbler's.
