Possessions

In Welsh there are two ways of saying your. We have the formal way, which is eich_______ chi:

Eich tÅ· chi.Your house.
Eich llaw chi.Your hand.
Eich ci chi.Your dog.
Eich mab chi.Your son.
Eich pethau chi.Your things.
Eich rhaw chi.Your spade.
Eich bag chi.Your bag.
Eich gwisg chi.Your uniform.
Eich drws chi.Your door.

We also have the informal way which is dy ___ di. This is a little more difficult as a soft mutation follows dy. Edrychwch - look at these examples:

Dy dÅ· di.t>d
Dy gi di.c>g
Dy bethau di.p>b
Dy fag di.b>f
Dy wisg di.g>/
Dy ddrws di.d>dd
Dy law di.ll>l
Dy fab di.m>f
Dy raw di.rh>r
Gwyn ydy lliw dy dÅ· di.White is the colour of your house.
19 ydy rhif dy dÅ· di.19 is the number of your house.
Rhys ydy enw dy fab di.Rhys is the name of your son.

To ask for someone's details we say beth ydy eich...chi?

Beth ydy'ch enw chi? What's your name?
Beth ydy'ch cyfeiriad chi? What's your address?
Beth ydy'ch rhif ffôn chi? What's your phone number?
Beth ydy'ch oedran chi? What's your age?

If you address a person as ti, you will say beth ydy dy... di? instead. Remember the mutations!

Beth ydy dy enw di?Beth ydy dy gyfeiriad di?Beth ydy dy rif ffôn di?
