Who, where, what?

There is no mutation after ble, but there is a mutation after pwy and beth:

Ble byddi di heno?Where will you be tonight?
Pwy fydd yn gofalu am y plant?Who will look after the children?
Pwy fydd yn coginio swper?Who will cook supper?
Beth byddwn ni'n wneud? What will we do?
Beth byddi di'n yfed? What will you drink?

  • If you have learnt the past tense you'll know that the verb mutates to indicate that a question is being asked:
  • Codoch chi'n gynnar.You got up early.
Godoch chi'n gynnar?Did you get up early?

This happens with the future tense as well:

Byddwch chi yn y gwely erbyn 9.00.You'll be in bed by 9.00.
Fyddwch chi yn y gwely erbyn 9.00?Will you be in bed by 9.00?

To answer a question in the future tense we use the responses:

    Bydda.(Yes, I will be.)
    Na fydda.(No, I won't be.)

    Fyddi di'n golchi'r llestri?
Will you be washing the dishes?
    Na fydda!
    Fyddi di'n glanhau'r ffwrn?
Will you be cleaning the oven?
    Bydda!

If talking about another person the responses are different:

    Fydd hi yn y gwaith?
    Will she be in work?
    Bydd!
    Fydd e'n mynd i siopa?
    Will he be going shopping?
    Na fydd!

  • There is also a mutation at the beginning of a negative statement

  • Fydda i ddim
    Fyddi di ddim
    Fydd e / hi ddim
    Fyddwn ni ddim
    Fyddwch chi ddim
    Fyddan nhw ddim
Fydda i ddim yn y gwaith heddiw.I won't be in work today.
