Meals

In Welsh the three main meals of the day are:

BrecwastBreakfast
CinioLunch
SwperSupper

If we want to ask someone what they like to eat for these meals we say:

Beth dych chi'n hoffi i frecwast?What do you like for breakfast?

Or, in the more informal way, "Beth wyt ti'n hoffi i frecwast?"

Beth wyt ti'n hoffi i frecwast?What do you like for breakfast?
Beth wyt ti'n hoffi i ginio?What do you like for lunch?
Beth wyt ti'n hoffi i swper?What do you like for supper?

  • Notice that there is a soft mutation after the 'i'. Brecwast becomes frecwast and cinio becomes ginio.
    Dw i'n hoffi tost i frecwast.I like toast for breakfast.
    Dw i'n hoffi brechdanau i ginio.I like sandwiches for lunch.
    Dw i'n hoffi pasta i swper.I like pasta for supper.
