 Payments: to both witnesses and criminals To protect both the integrity of the judicial process and the BBC's reputation while criminal proceedings are active, no programme may pay or promise to pay, directly or indirectly, any witness or person who may reasonably be expected to be called as a witness for their story. Nor should any payment be suggested or made dependent on the outcome of the trial. Any proposal to step outside this rule must be referred to Controller Editorial Policy. You should not make payments to criminals, nor generally to former criminals who are talking about their crimes or to families or relatives of criminals or former criminals. Payments should also not be made to people whose behaviour, though not criminal, is clearly anti-social, or whose activities have attracted such notoriety that payment would be inappropriate. |
