The Bord Bia Quality Mark

Bord Bia logo

Like the Northern Ireland Beef and Lamb Food Quality Assurance Scheme in NI, Bord Bia ensures that food has been produced to the highest standards within the Republic of Ireland.

The Bord Bia Quality Mark appears on the following foods:

  • eggs
  • fruit and vegetables
  • potatoes
  • beef, lamb and pork that is pre-packed
  • cooked ham
  • chicken, turkey and duck
  • sausages, bacon and burgers

To achieve the Bord Bia Quality Mark food is checked independently at every stage of production, thereby ensuring high standards in the following areas:

  • animal welfare
  • animal feed and water
  • farm safety
  • animal traceability
  • environmental and pasture management

The independent check for quality assurance goes through three steps:

  1. Standards – where high standards are set for the products
  2. Audit – the inspection of the farm or production area
  3. Certification – this is granted if the audit has been passed
