Bosses at Guernsey Water said its teams were working hard to keep drainage systems clear

Drainage systems in parts of Guernsey have been "overwhelmed" after recent heavy rainfall, according to a water firm.

Bosses at Guernsey Water said systems had been running at full capacity after large downpours led to them taking on a "large volume of flowing water rapidly".

Jon Holt, the company's operations manager, said some culverts had become blocked from storm debris and teams had been "working into the night" to keep drainage systems clear and working to maximum capacity.

John Searson from the Met Office warned more rain was forecast for the island with flooding expected to occur in some places.
