Fifth murder arrest over man hit by car

A fifth person has been arrested following the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a car in Barnsley.

Liam Green, 45, died at the scene after he was struck by a white VW Touareg on Rose Tree Avenue, Cudworth, at about 17:00 BST on Friday.

South Yorkshire Police said a 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday and remained in custody.

A 33-year-old man and a boy aged 17 who were arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday have been released on bail. A 60-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday remained in police custody, the force added.

Green's family, who are being supported by officers, paid tribute to him on Sunday saying they hoped he was "at peace now".

"We all love you very much, sending you big hugs from your mam, sons, brother and family," they said.

A force spokesperson said inquiries were ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact officers.
