Road reopens after sinkhole repairs in town
Jewel MiahWork to reopen a town centre street in Loughborough shut due to a sinkhole has now been completed, Leicestershire County Council said.
The defect in Bridge Street was reported to highways teams late on Saturday night.
The road - part of the Inner Relief Road town centre bypass - was closed for safety reasons since then, leading to disruption.
The county council thanked drivers for their patience and announced on Wednesday the road had reopened.
Jewel MiahCouncillor Jewel Miah, leader of Charnwood Borough Council, said the disruption was compounded by issues on the M1 earlier in the week.
He said: "They came straight out to investigate and make the road safe.
"As a major through road it had caused severe disruption to the town centre and coupled with the accident on the motorway on Monday afternoon, caused severe delays to motorists."
