A cow which got stuck in the mud managed to get moo-ving thanks to a three-hour rescue operation.

Firefighter crews were called to the trapped animal near Threlkeld in the Lake District on Friday afternoon.

A vet, large animal rescue team and the cow's owner also helped to free the animal using a mixture of farming machinery and people power.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said the rescue mission proved being a firefighter was not always glamorous.

"The service has invested heavily in providing advanced training and specialist equipment for crews to be able to respond effectively to a wide range of incidents, including animal rescues," a spokesperson said.
