Surrey Police say a pedestrian was killed on the M3 on Sunday

A man in his 20s has been killed by a car while walking on a motorway in Surrey, police say.

Emergency services were called to the M3 between junction four near Farnborough, Hampshire, and junction three for Bagshot, shortly after 05:00 GMT on Sunday, after reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said the pedestrian died at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.

"Our inquiries are ongoing. No arrests have been made," they said.

Police said the driver had remained at the scene to assist with their inquiries.

The police spokesperson said the M3 northbound carriageway was closed between the two junctions for several hours but it has since reopened.

Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses, especially anyone who may have seen a pedestrian approaching the M3 via The Maultway.
