A man murdered a chef and left his body at an abandoned building, police said.

Adam Rowson, of no fixed address in Shrewsbury, Shropshire was found guilty of murdering Alexis De Naray following a 12-day trial at Stafford Crown Court.

The 26-year-old had pleaded not guilty to the charge but on Wednesday a jury returned a guilty verdict, following two hours and 45 minutes of deliberation.

They heard how De Naray, 46, was found dead in an empty building near the Shelton Water Tower in Shrewsbury on 27 June, with Rowson being the last person to see him alive, West Merica Police said.

Detectives also discovered that Rowson had used his bank card to buy alcohol and scratch cards.

Det Insp Joanne Delahay, who led the investigation, said: "Alexis died as a result of a vicious and prolonged assault at the hands of Rowson.

"I'm pleased that he has been found guilty today and will now face a substantial amount of time in prison.

"Our thoughts remain with Alexis's family and friends, who have been incredibly strong throughout this ordeal."

Rowson was remanded into custody and will be sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on 6 May.
