Sussex Police say a 30-year-old man was taken to hospital following reports of a stabbing

Two men have been arrested following a stabbing near a West Sussex seafront, police have said.

Emergency services were called to New Parade, Worthing at about 15:20 GMT on Thursday. A 30-year-old man was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition, Sussex Police said.

A spokesperson for the force said: "A 25-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been arrested for assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

"A 31-year-old Worthing man has been arrested for assisting an offender."

Det Insp Chris May said: "This is an active investigation and we encourage anyone who witnessed the incident or who has relevant information, such as CCTV or mobile footage, to contact us.

"There will be patrols in the area for reassurance, and people are encouraged to stop and talk to officers."
