Organisers of the Leicester 10k run, which is set to return to the city on 1 March, have announced a series of road closures, access restrictions and parking suspensions.

Starting in Jubilee Square at 09:00 GMT, runners will head through the city centre towards Victoria Park and through the University of Leicester campus before the route takes them back to the starting point.

The event organisers - Jane Tomlinson's Run For All - said the parking suspensions would come into place from 16:00 on 28 February until 13:00 on 1 March.

Road closures and restrictions will begin on St Nicholas Place at 05:00 on 1 March, with other closures along the route in effect from 08:15.

Organisers said the reopening of roads will take place in phases, with final on-route closures lifted by 11:30 and St Nicholas Place on Jubilee Square fully reopened by 13:00.

Run for All said affected roads included A594 St George's Way, A594 Waterloo Way, A6 London Slip Road, Albion Street, Belvoir Street, Bishop Street, Bowling Street, Chatham Street, De Montfort Street, East Street, Every Street, Granby Street, Granville Road, Grey Friars, Horsefair Street, Hotel Street and Lancaster Road.

Other affected roads include Market Place, Market Place South, Market Street, Mayors Walk, Millstone Lane, New Street, Peace Walk, Peacock Lane, Regent Road, Regent Street, St Martins, St Nicholas Place, Stamford Street, University Road, Welford Road and York Street.

Only one lane of London Road and Welford Road will be closed, whilst Victoria Park Road will be completely open as runners will use the cycle path, organisers added.

Organisers said they had worked to minimise disruption caused by the event

Tristan Batley-Kyle, operations director at Jane Tomlinson's Run For All, apologised for any inconvenience caused and said event teams would work to reopen roads as soon as possible.

"We look forward to once again welcoming participants of all abilities to take on the Leicester 10K.

"While some disruption is unavoidable with an event of this size, we have worked hard to minimise the impact as much as possible," he added.
