Starbucks plan for former police station site
STRONGHOLD COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES LTDA plan to demolish an empty police station in Long Eaton and replace it with a Starbucks drive-thru has been submitted.
Stronghold Commercial Properties Ltd wants to build the unit with associated parking and electric charging points at the site in Midland Street.
Material in planning documents sent to Erewash Borough Council said the application would provide 20 jobs.
The planning agent on behalf of the applicant said the proposal would be a "positive use of a vacant site" which would be "complimentary within its surroundings".
The police station was among 58 building closures announced by Derbyshire Police in 2015.
A spokesperson for commercial property consultants Montagu Evans, said: "The site comprises brownfield land housing a vacant building [and] positive pre application discussions have been held with the council prior to the submission of the application.
"The proposal will deliver material socioeconomic benefits, by providing the creation of circa 20 jobs, providing secure employment opportunities to the local community."
The council will decide on the application later this year.
