Several business owners have complained of youths causing theft and criminal damage, prompting a dispersal order in a town in Nottingham.

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed it had received reports of groups of young people "gathering and causing a nuisance" in Bulwell on Sunday afternoon.

The force said the order was put in place at 18:00 GMT on Sunday, after "numerous" complaints of anti-social behaviour from shops and restaurants in the town, and would last until 18:00 on Tuesday.

"Reports ranged from abuse being shouted in the street, to shoppers being disrupted and people climbing up on to buildings," a police statement said.

The force said anybody committing an offence who refused this order could be arrested.

Officers also asked parents to ensure they know where their children are when they go out and to remove them from Bulwell town centre while the order is in place.

The order covers Carey Road, Cantrell Road, Station Road, Bulwell Bogs, Bulwell High Road, Commercial Road, Rock Street, Squires Avenue, Main Street, Hucknall Lane and Leen Drive.

Insp Paul Ferguson said: "It is important people understand that the type of behaviour reported to us over the weekend simply will not be tolerated.

"Enforcing a dispersal order wasn't a decision I took lightly but I will not hesitate to extend it, should we continue to see issues."

Officers have additional powers during a dispersal order, meaning they can immediately remove anyone they suspect of being involved in anti-social behaviour from the area, and under-16s can be escorted back to their homes by police.
